Iran Condemns EU’s Anti-Iran Sanctions

The Iranian Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned Europe for its new unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, describing the move as “illogical and inhuman.”

“The unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union are illegal, inhuman and illogical, and are imposed only under the pretext of our country’s peaceful nuclear activities,” the ministry’s spokesman, Ramin Mehmanparast said.

Mehmanparast echoed comments made by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who said the Western embargos are intended to target the independence of the Iranian nation and that allegations about its nuclear energy program are merely a cover for their real intentions.

The spokesman referred to the ban on Iran’s import of civilian airplane parts, and said, “European countries have disgraced themselves by such measures and their problem is that we rely on our independence and do not allow other powers to interfere in our affair.”

Mehmanparast highlighted the Islamic Republic’s goodwill and willingness for “constructive negotiations” with the Western side, recalling Iran’s proposed package presented in the last round of multifaceted talks with the P5+1 group — including Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States and Germany — in Moscow.

The Iranian official also warned that the group’s miscalculation by insisting on mounting sanctions against the Islamic Republic will only strengthen solidarity of the Iranian nation.

The illegal US-engineered sanctions were imposed based on the unfounded allegation that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman has emphasized that the Islamic Republic’s stance towards its nuclear energy program has not changed.

Mehmanparast said that “the Islamic republic of Iran’s stance towards pursuing the country’s legal right to use peaceful nuclear energy is clear.”

He added that Iran runs its peaceful nuclear energy program in the framework of international laws and under the constant supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman noted that Tehran has so far proved its good intentions by having constructive cooperation with the IAEA to remove any possible ambiguity.

Mehmanparast reiterated that Iran welcomes constructive and mutual cooperation with the IAEA and the P5+1 group — comprising the US, Britain, France, China, and Russia plus Germany.
