Arab League Chief Gets Syrian Death Threats

Sources close to the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Dr. Nabil el-Arabi conveyed on Thursday that he had received during the last days death threats from Syria. He got these threats through his mobile phone. The threats were made following the Arab League resolution to suspend the participation of Syria in its meetings and the possible imposition of economic sanctions.

The sources said Egypt’s the military council is aware of these threats, and decided to strengthen the security measures around al Arabi. In addition, al Arabi exchanged his phone number.

The Arab foreign ministers yesterday gave the Syrian government three days to stop the violence, in a meeting held in Rabat, Morocco.
