Senate Confirms McFaul To Be US Ambassador To Russia

The US Senate on Saturday confirmed top White House adviser Michael McFaul to be the US Ambassador to Russia.

McFaul is regarded as one of the nation’s leading experts on US Relations with Moscow and has been involved in the Obama administration’s efforts to stabilize relations with the Moscow government.

The former Stanford professor was a campaign adviser to Obama on Russia and Eurasia before moving to the Natioanl Security Council to become the president’s chief Russia dviser.

Obama nominated McFaul for the ambassador’s post last September, but a Senate vote on his confirmation was held up by Republicans with issues over US policies toward Russian.
