Iran Opposition Plans New Protest Sunday
By RFE RL
(RFE/RL) — Iran’s opposition has invited Iranians to attend a protest rally in Tehran and other cities on February 20 to mark a week since the deaths of two people in earlier demonstrations.
An opposition website kaleme.com said the demonstrations would be a “fight against religious dictatorship” in Iran.
Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar warned of a crackdown if opposition supporters stage the planned protests, saying: “We will confront them as per the law.”
Members of parliament and clerics have called for the execution of opposition leaders Mir Hossein Musavi and Mehdi Karrubi, who are already under house arrest, for organizing the February 14 rallies.
