Visiting US Deputy National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and Assistant to the President John Brennan reaffirmed Saturday his country’s backing to Yemen’s early presidential elections.

At a meeting with Yemeni Army Chief Maj. Gen. Ahmad Al-Ashwal, Brennan, who delivered earlier in the day a letter from US president Barack Obama to Yemeni Vice President Abdo Rabbo Mansour Hadi, highly commended the level of partnership and cooperation between the US and Yemen and their friendly armies.

He also spoke highly of efforts exerted by Yemeni authorities to hold the forthcoming presidential polls as scheduled.

For his part, Al-Ashwal greatly appreciated US efforts to contain the political crisis in Yemen.

He also reaffirmed his country’s gratitude to Washington’s support to the Gulf initiative that led to a consensual way out of the Yemeni problem.
