The number of victims of a ferry disaster off the coast of the island of Zanzibar has increased to 31, including two Europeans, with about 145 people having been rescued.
This was reported on Wednesday by the Transportation Ministry of Tanzania.
The ferry capsized and sank due to strong winds between mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar in the Indian Ocean.
On board were more than 280 passengers including 30 children and 6 crew members. However, it is not uncommon for local ferries to transport numerous undocumented passengers.
The rescue operation continues.
