Batman Screening: At Least 12 Killed In US Movie Theater Shooting

At least 12 people are reported to have been killed and another 50 injured on Friday in a shooting at a Denver movie theater during the premier of the new Batman movie, the local KOA radio station reported citing the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

Law enforcement authorities identified the alleged gunman as James Holmes, 24, and said he was taken into custody after the attack.

Witnesses told the radio station that a gunman in a gas mask started firing an assault rifle in the movie theater, killing ten people on the spot. Another four died in the hospital, police said.

The gunman was detained by police, KOA said.

The radio reported that the people were evacuated from the area while the police were checking if there were any explosive devices inside the building.
