Japan: IAEA Says Fukushima Units 5, 6 In ‘Safe Mode’

Units 5 and 6 of Japan’s crippled Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant are in safe mode, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported.

The Fukushima plant was hit by a number of explosions following a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that killed thousands on March 11.

Efforts are still underway to try to cool down the overheating nuclear cores in the reactors to prevent nuclear fallout.

Radiation was discovered on Saturday and Sunday in food produced near the plant. The sale of some products was halted over possible health risks.
