Tap Oil Limited provided Monday more information on the Hannah-1 commitment well, offshore Carnarvon Basin, Western Australia.

The Hannah-1 well is located in permit TP/8, approximately 18km east of Barrow Island and was drilled in 16m of water by the jack-up rig Ensco 104.

The well tested a stratigraphic oil play in the early Cretaceous section of the Barrow Group. The primary target was intersected at 1,200m and there were no significant hydrocarbons present in the reservoir. The well reached total depth at 1,368m and has been plugged and abandoned.

Tap’s Chief Financial Officer David Rich said, “The joint venture had a commitment to drill an exploration well under the terms of its exploration permit. The Hannah-1 well will cost Tap approximately $1 million and was testing a high risk oil play, so the result is not unexpected.”
