Gaddafi Loses Control Over Eastern Province – Italian Foreign Minister

Libya’s eastern province Cyrenaica is no longer under the control of country’s embattled leader Muammar Gaddafi, Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini said on Wednesday.

“Cyrenaica is no longer under the control of the Libya government and there are outbreaks of violence across the country,” Frattini said.

According to the Italian minister, as many as 1,000 people have so far been killed across Libya. “We have no complete information about the number of people that have died,” Frattini said.

Protests against longtime Gaddafi’s regime began on February 15.
