Iran: Nuclear Scientist ‘Shot Dead’ In Tehran

(RFE/RL) — Iranian media reports say that an Iranian nuclear scientist has been shot dead in Tehran.

The reports said the man, described as a physics professor and nuclear scientist, was assassinated in front of his house.

Some reports said the man’s wife was also wounded. The Mehr news agency said the shooting was carried out by attackers on a motorcycle.

The ISNA news agency identified the scientist as Daryoush Rezaei, 35, a nuclear expert with links to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (IAO).

It’s the second slaying of a nuclear scientist in Iran in less than a year.

In November 2010, Majid Shahriari, a physics professor and reportedly also a member of the IAO, was killed in a bomb attack that Iranian officials blamed on the United States and Israel.
