Hindus Dismayed At US Presidential Candidate Santorum’s Religion Comments

Hindus are dismayed at American Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum’s reported comments few days back that equality does not come from “Eastern religions”.

“It comes from the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, that’s where it comes from”, Santorum reportedly added while speaking at Boiling Springs in South Carolina. (Eastern religions, besides others, also include Hinduism).

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that Hinduism was the oldest religion of the world and in Hinduism, equality was the fundamental truth.

Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, stressed that ancient Hindu scripture Shvetashvatara Upanishad told us that God dwelled in the hearts of all creatures: “He is this boy, he is that girl, he is this man, he is that woman, and he is this old man, too, tottering on his staff”.

Rajan Zed further said that Rig-Veda, oldest existing scripture of mankind still in common use, pointed out: May the thoughts in our mind be always harmonious and tolerant towards others.

Zed suggested Santorum to study Hinduism and other Eastern religions as the United States (US) of America being a diverse society, US President should know at least the basics of the religions of all Americans. If asked, he or other Hindu scholars would gladly enlighten Santorum about Hinduism, Zed added.
