A suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden car outside a police station in northwestern Pakistan Thursday, killing five people and wounding more than 25 others.
Local authorities say the attack occurred in Hangu, a district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province adjacent to Pakistan’s restive tribal region. The dead included a police officer.
The explosion destroyed part of the police station and damaged several surrounding houses. Police said the bomber was unable to strike the police station because of security barriers outside the building.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast.
