Pope Names New Holy See Diplomat For India And Nepal

Pope Francis appointed Archbishop Giambattista Diquattro as the new apostolic nuncio to India and Nepal on Jan. 21.
In taking up the role, Italian-born Archbishop Diquattro, 63, will leave his position as apostolic nuncio to Bolivia.
The archbishop has served the Vatican’s diplomatic service for more than 30 years.
“He joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See on May 1, 1985, serving continuous missions in the pontifical representations in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad, the United Nations (in New York), and later in the Secretariat of State of His Holiness — Section for Relations with States, and in the apostolic nunciature in Italy,” wrote Bishop Theodore Mascarenhas, the secretary-general of the Catholic Bishops Conference of India in an announcement.
Apart from his native Italian, Archbishop Diquattro is also fluent in French, Spanish and English.
