Iran: Parliament Speaker Says Enemies Won’t Dare To Attack

By

The Speaker of the Majlis (Iranian parliament), Ali Larijani said Wednesday that the United States and its allies would not dare to attack Iran in any way, reported the semi-official news agency Fars. The United States and its allies know that the Islamic Republic is too powerful, and would not allow them to make such “childish nonsense,” Larijani said in an open session of the Majlis.

On Tuesday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also hailed the power of Iran in defending its territorial integrity, and stressed that its enemies did not dare to attack his country.

The United States and its Western allies believe that Iran is currently developing nuclear weapons. Tehran denies these allegations, saying its nuclear program is strictly peaceful. The United States and Israel have not ruled out attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Meanwhile, European and Iranian diplomats met yesterday in Istanbul to discuss Tehran’s nuclear program. The meeting was closed to the press, and was to seek common ground between Western powers and Iran. The Western powers want that Tehran suspend uranium enrichment to 20% level, while the Islamic Republic refuses this demand, saying its right.

The sanctions imposed by Western powers on Iran led to the deterioration of the economic situation in Iran. According to independent economists, inflation would hit around 60% this year. The price of chicken has increased three times in recent months. The result was a demonstration, which was held earlier this week to protest against the rising costs of living.
