Vatican-Beijing Bishop Ordination Deal Expected Soon

By

High level representatives from the Vatican and the Chinese government will meet in Rome later this month to decide on a deal regarding the ordination of bishops on the mainland, reports Reuters citing sources.

As part of this, the Holy See has come to a decision to recognize at least four Beijing-appointed bishops, according to sources in the church.

Reuters was also told that Beijing is arranging to proclaim at least two new bishops before the year’s end. These two appointments would likewise have the Vatican’s blessing, said the report.

The two sides resumed talks in 2014 after a period where all relations were frozen for several decades.
