Spain: Ford To Lay Off 4,000 Workers

Ford Motor Co. is poised to sack 4,000 workers at its plant in Valencia, Spain, due to dwindling sales.

The move will be effective between January and October next year, according to reports here Thursday.

Sales have reduced by one million cars in Europe this year, said the report, indicating that auto production in Spain for 2012 is expected to hit 152,000 cars, 60,000 lower than this year’s figure.

The US automaker had vowed in June to invest 812 million Euro in its plant in Valencia for the coming two years.
