Sri Lanka: Sirisena Says New Political Program To Be Introduced

Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena said he will introduce a new political program after May 1.

Sirisena further said that he will take several new political decisions after May 01 for the betterment of the country and its people.

Sirisena said that he believed those decisions will help to prevent the corrupt forces, who used the state powers and assets in an erroneous way, regaining the power in the country another time as well as it will help to protect the democracy and freedom of the public while taking the country forward without corruption and fraud.

Sirisena made these remarks addressing a public rally subsequently participating in a ceremony to vest the Medirigiriya Water Supply Project on Monday.

Sirisena emphasized that he will not allow any room in any occasion to disappoint the expectation of the people who voted to bring this new government into power with the aim of creating a clean political culture and building a free country.

“Even though various criticisms were leveled against the government in an environment where the freedom of expression is secured, the government has implemented a strong strategy to uplift the living standard of the people while developing the economy of the country,” Sirisena added.

Today, the development process of Sri Lanka has received utmost international support, and for the first time in the history of the country the Head of State of Sri Lanka has been invited to attend the G7 summit, Sirisena said.

Sirisena further said that a prominent business delegation from Germany, including its Economic Affairs minister will visit Sri Lanka in the next month to explore business opportunities in the country and said that the Government of Iran also has extended an invitation for him to visit there to find ways how Iran could assist for the development of Sri Lanka.

Sirisena also emphasized that he will not allow any room for anyone to make fraud and corruption by misusing the state assets and if such kind of complaints were received the law will impose against them without considering their status.
