Brazil’s Former President Fernando Collor Arrested In Maceió

Brazil’s Former President Fernando Collor de Mello was arrested on Friday morning (Apr. 25) in Maceió, capital of Alagoas state.
According to Collor’s defense, he was on his way to the airport, where he was due to fly to Brasilia to voluntarily comply with the court’s decision. Collor is also a former senator.
Following his arrest, the former president was taken to the Federal Police headquarters in Alagoas.
Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered Collor’s detention after rejecting an appeal to review his 2023 conviction of eight years and ten months in prison for passive corruption and money laundering.
