UN Envoy Negotiates Political Solution To Libya Crisis
By Ria Novosti
UN’s special envoy to Libya Abdel-Elah Al-Khatib met with members of the Libyan rebel government on Monday in search of a political solution to the five-months-long civil conflict in the African state.
The UN press service said the envoy “held talks in the city of Benghazi… in his continuing efforts to find a political solution.”
Khatib is expected to visit Tripoli on Tuesday for further negotiations.
Libya has been rocked by fighting between pro- and anti-government forces since mid-February. An international military operation began on March 19 following a UN resolution and has been extended until September.
