Police: Human Remains Found In Burned-Out House Of NY Shooter

By

Police in the town of Webster, in the northeastern U.S. state of New York say they have found human remains in the burned-out house of an ex-convict who set the dwelling on fire and shot at the firefighters who arrived to put out the flames.

Police say they suspect the remains are those of the sister of 62-year-old William Spengler.

A medical examiner will determine the identity. Spengler lived with his sister, who has not been seen since Monday’s blaze.

Spengler shot and killed two firefighters and wounded two others before killing himself. Police say he left behind a chilling note saying he wanted to do what he does best — killing people.

Authorities searching Spengler’s house found a revolver, a shotgun and a semiautomatic Bushmaster rifle, which was used to shoot the firefighters.

The Bushmaster is the same type of gun used in the December 14 massacre of 20 children and six teachers at a Connecticut elementary school.

Spengler had spent 17 years in prison for the beating death of his 92-year-old grandmother.

As a convicted felon, he was not allowed to own guns. Police are trying to figure out how he obtained the weapons.
