Syria: Over 100 Killed In Clashes

By

At least 102 people were killed Friday in clashes across Syria. For the first time since the anti-regime protests started in mid-March 2011, at least 12 people were killed in riots in Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city.

Among the dead were also women and children, said activists.

However, most of the dead were reported in the cities of Hama and Homs.

Earlier, Syrian rebels claimed they had captured five Iranian military personnel. The Free Syrian Army issued a clip showing an officer and four soldiers of the Iranian elite unit of the Revolutionary Guards arrested. The Iranians had operated as snipers.

These developments come as the UN Security Council is expected to hold a special session regarding the conflict in Syria. Russia and China so far vowed to veto any resolution against President Assad regime.
