Defiant Gaddafi Says Still In Libya

By

Deposed Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi said on Tuesday he was still in Libya and was ready to die a martyr’s death.

“You should know that I am on the ground with you. They lie when they say Gaddafi is in Venezuela or Gaddafi is in Niger,” he said, he said in comments broadcast by local radio in Bani Walid, one of his few remaining strongholds.

Gaddafi’s exact whereabouts are unknown.

He also said “an unexpected shock “was in store for the Transitional National Council, Libya’s interim government, which has been recognized by over 60 states.

On Monday, Egyptian airport authorities denied earlier reports that eight members of Gaddafi’s family, including his daughter Aisha, had arrived in the country from Algeria.

Massive demonstrations against longtime leader Gaddafi broke out in Libya in mid-February. A NATO-led military operation began on March 19 following a UN resolution on “targeted measures” to protect civilians.

Libya’s National Transitional Council agreed last week on the makeup of an interim cabinet. NTC current chief Mahmoud Jibril has been named interim prime minister.
