Syria: Arab League Suspends Observer Mission Due To Increasing Violence
he Arab League on Saturday decided to suspend its monitoring mission to Syria due to “increasing violence.” Since Tuesday, violence in Syria killed some 200 people, mostly civilians.
The 165 observers from the Arab League have been deployed in Syria since December 26 with the approval of the Syrian regime in order to monitor the implementation of a plan to end the crisis.
The Syrian opposition conveyed it will ask the UN Security Council for protection against repression by the regime of President Bashar al-Assad. The Syrian National Council has “decided to go tomorrow (Sunday) to the Security Council, under the direction of (Chairman) Bourhan Ghalioun to present the Syrian issue (…) and require protection,” said Samir Neshar an official at the Council.
