Egypt: Army Confirms Mubarak Under House Arrest

Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his family are under house arrest and not allowed to leave the country, the supreme military council said on Monday on its Facebook site.

The military denied reports that Mubarak had left to Saudi Arabia, adding: “He and his family are subject to forced residency in Egypt.”

The junta has also announced that legislative elections will be held next September.

They will be preceded by lifting the state of emergency in place for 30 years.

The presidential elections that will follow the legislative elections, but a date is yet to be specified.

The Council on Sunday dismissed a report published by the newspaper Al Masry Al Youm about the postponement of the presidential elections to June 2012, stressing that the armed forces seeking to end their mission as soon as possible and transfer the state powers to a civilian authority.
