Vietnam: Lutheran Pastor Gets 11-Year Jail Term

By

A Lutheran pastor was jailed for 11 years on Monday by the People’s Court of Gia Lai province for undermining the country’s solidarity policy.

Nguyen Cong Chinh, 43, was accused of disseminating documents against the communist government to reactionary individuals and organizations overseas from 2004 to April 2011.

The court also accused him of “working with foreign organizations to set up several illegal religious organizations and groups, receiving financial support from reactionary organizations to work against the government and divide local ethnic groups.”

Some sources said security officials prevented people from entering the court. The pastor’s lawyer was also not present.
