A double strike from Samuel Eto’o helped Anzhi to a 3-1 win over Lokomotiv Moscow on Saturday and into fifth in the Russian Premier League, a Europa League qualification spot.

Lokomotiv defender Taras Burlak struck into his own net to put Anzhi ahead after 25 minutes.

Barely five minutes later, Lokomotiv captain Denis Glushakov equalized with a pinpoint shot into Vladimir Gabulov’s right-hand corner after a through pass from Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Eto’o forced another mistake from the Lokomotiv defense to put his team 2-1 ahead on 65 minutes, taking the ball down on his chest and rifling it into the opposing corner of the goal.

In the 86th minute Lokomotiv substitute Dmitry Sychev celebrated a goal that was eventually ruled out for offside.

Eto’o hit his third goal in the last two games in injury time, waltzing past two Lokomotiv defenders before burying the ball into the corner.

Anzhi jump one place to fifth with 66 points, sending Lokomotiv to sixth, a point behind and out of the Euro qualification zone.
