Bahrain: Saudi Arabia Planning Withdrawal

By

Gulf forces dispatched to support Bahrain’s crackdown on Shiite-led protests are to be “redeployed” but will not withdraw completely, a Saudi official conveyed on Tuesday.

“It is normal to redeploy the Peninsula Shield force but the danger is not over yet and these forces will not return to their bases or entirely withdraw,” the official was quoted as saying by AFP.

Meanwhile another source said Saudi Arabia is set to withdraw most of its troops from Bahrain.

The move will start next Monday, given the stability of the situation across Bahrain.

A Saudi government source said: “The Saudi troops will start to withdraw on Monday.”

The report added that the withdrawal will be carried out gradually.
