Yemen has been grappling with a number of security problems, including the local offshoot of al Qaeda.
Last month, the Yemeni chief of security at the US embassy in Sanaa, Qassem Aqlani, was assassinated. Aqlani was reportedly shot dead while on his way to work by a gunman on a motorcycle who fled the scene.
In March this year the Saudi deputy consult, Abdullah Khaled, was kidnapped in Aden in the South of the country.
