Oil tanker blasts in Pakistani northern town kill 8, wound 25

At least eight people including two women were killed and more than twenty-five were wounded in a suicide and oil tanker blasts late Friday in a Pakistani northern town, said police.

A suicide bomber exploded his explosive-laden vehicle hundred kilometers down the Kohat Tunnel after Friday midnight, District Coordinating Officer (DCO) Kohat Shahidullah told newsmen on Saturday. He said the bomber had used about 500 kilograms of explosive.

While the rescue operation was underway, another explosion took place at the other end of the tunnel targeting police checkpost. Police said that a suspected militant drove an oil tanker into police checkpost at the exit point of the tunnel.

The two explosions killed eight people including two women, said the DCO, adding, about twenty-five wounded have been admitted in a nearby hospital.

Several of the wounded were said to be in critical condition.
