Tunisia On High Alert After Intelligence Warns Of Islamic State Suicide Bombings

Tunisia’s Interior Ministry received intelligence that “terrorist groups” affiliated with the Islamic State in Libya are planning suicide bombings against police as well as other attacks in Greater Tunis, Minister Hédi Majdoub said.

Intelligence work was beefed up, Majdoub emphasised at a hearing Wednesday of the House of People’s Representatives (HPR) Security and Defence Committee. 1,400 people stood trial on charges of a belonging to a terrorist organisation.

There is a close border security coordination with Algeria and to a lesser degree with Libya given the state of affairs there, the Minister indicated. The police and the army are ready to counter threats, he added.
