Hindus Ask Lady Gaga To Visit Hindu Temple While In India

Welcoming international pop icon Lady Gaga’s reported interest in Hinduism and reincarnation, Hindus have asked her to visit a Hindu temple and explore Hinduism firsthand during her current India trip.

Gaga (Born This Way), 25, has been quoted as saying: “I actually find that a lot of my philosophies about art are mirrored in the Hindu religion…I love reading Osho (Indian mystic)…I began to reflect on how reincarnation was relevant…”

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that as Lady Gaga explored Hinduism further, she would appreciate rich, diverse and long tradition of Hindu philosophy; and its interpretation of the nature of reality.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, further said that if Gaga needed any help in deeper Hinduism exploration, he or other Hindu scholars would be glad to assist.

Rajan Zed recommends Gaga to realize the Self. Ancient Hindu scripture Katha Upanishad points out that when wise realize the Self, they go beyond sorrow. Self is supreme and those who meditate on Self are freed from the cycle of birth and death. When one realizes Self, there is nothing else to be known, Zed quotes.

While deconstructing Gaga’s “Born This Way” video; many critics, fansites, and others mentioned the presence of third eye, lotus flowers, Hindu goddess, etc., imagery in it; which they claimed was a symbolism taken from Hinduism.

Gaga was also quoted as saying that her album “Born This Way” was about reincarnation and liberation, being reborn over and over again. She is said to be obsessed with Hindu sacred symbol Om and reportedly asked her associates to acquire jewellery/accessories/material containing Om and wanted to read more about it. She is reportedly intrigued by Hindu symbolism and religious figures, and earlier this year she quoted a line from Osho on Twitter.

She is in India on a four-day trip to give a high-octane performance at closing party for India’s maiden Formula One Grand Prix open-wheeled auto race on October 30, in a five-star hotel just outside capital Delhi, where each ticket costs Rupees 40, 000 (about US $823).

Lady Gaga (Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta), who was reportedly raised as Roman Catholic, has won about 120 awards including five Grammys and her album “Born This Way” sold about one million copies in five days on iTunes. She has been listed in Time and Forbes lists of 100 most influential people in the world. Her single “Poker Face” reportedly topped nearly all the charts worldwide. With reportedly over 15 million followers on Twitter, maximum in the world, and about 44 million ‘likes’ on Facebook, she has redefined various aspects of entertainment industry. She is also famous for her head-turning costumes making outlandish fashion statements.

Oscar winner Hollywood star Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman) joined the Hindu fold in the recent past. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about one billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal.
