EU Tells Serbia To Honor 3 Additional Conditions To Accept Membership Request

By

Head of the European Union’s (EU) Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert said Monday Belgrade must honor three additional conditions before end of next month so the EU would consider its membership request.

Degert said Serbia’s implementation of all agreements and pledges it had concluded with the government of Republic of Kosovo and allowing foreign diplomatic representation of Kosovo were two of the major conditions Belgrade must meet before EU leaders reconsider its membership request.

He also said Serbia should allow the EU Delegation and EU police (Europol) to work freely in the whole of Kosovo.

Degert, cited by Serbian media, added that Serbia should also stop its support to extremist Serbs in northern Kosovo.

It is highly important that Serbia heed to these conditions in addition to other requirements – like the fight against corruption, organized crime, administrative and legislative reforms – in order accept membership request.
