Real Madrid Title Hopes Fade After 2-3 Loss To Real Zaragoza

By

The richest football club in Spain, Real Madrid, lost its slim title hopes on Saturday after losing to Real Zaragoza 2-3 in the country’s premier league.

Surprisingly it was Zaragoza who broke the deadlock in the 40th minute.

A calamitous air kick from Casillas gave Lafita the simple task of slotting the ball into the back of the net to silence the Bernabeu and leave the Spanish goalie embarrassed.

Los Blanquillos went in at half-time in the lead as Jose Mourinho’s horror week continued.

Angel Lafita was Madrid’s tormentor-in-chief, scoring two of Zaragoza’s goals and winning the penalty that led to Gabi scoring the third.

Madrid had hit back from 2-0 and 3-1 down with goals from Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema but they could not find a third, and they also finished the match with 10 men following Ricardo Carvalho’s late sending off.

While the result was bad for Madrid, Zaragoza provisionally move four points, (now 12 points in the ranking) clear of the drop zone with a potentially invaluable victory.

If Barca defeats Real Sociedad later on Saturday evening then the Catalan club will move 11 points clear with only four games remaining.
