Born in 1973, Air Commodore Vajira Senadheera joined the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) through Intake XI of the Kotelawala Defence University in 1993 and was commissioned in 1995, earning a Bachelor of Arts (Defence) degree. Over an illustrious career spanning three decades, he has held several key appointments, including commanding various SLAF field squadrons, bases, and stations, in addition to serving as an officer instructor. Notably, he served as the Commanding Officer of the Protective Accommodation and Rehabilitation Centre for Ex-LTTE Combatants and led the SLAF contingent deployed in Haiti as part of the United Nations peacekeeping operations. His exceptional leadership and operational expertise have been recognized with several accolades. In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious “Golden Pen” and “Golden Owl” awards at the Defence Services Command and Staff College. Further highlighting his academic excellence, he received the Best Individual Research Project award during the National Defence Course 2024 in Bangladesh. He holds four Master’s degrees in Defence Studies, Human Resource Management, Conflict & Peace Studies, and Security & Development Studies. A prolific academic contributor, he has published two journal articles in the Defence & Security Journal of the Defence Services Command and Staff College in 2016 and 2021. An alumnus of the National Defence College, Bangladesh, Air Commodore Senadheera was promoted to the rank of Air Commodore in 2022. His distinguished career reflects an unwavering commitment to leadership, education, and international service, positioning him as an influential figure in the field of defence and security.
