South Sudan Minister Killed, Possible Personal Motive
By MISNA
South Sudan’s Minister of Cooperatives and Rural Development Jimmy Lemi Milla was shot dead today in his ministerial office in central Juba, local media sources told MISNA.
The motive of the killing may have been a family dispute.
“The minister was killed with his bodyguard and based on first reports the killer appears to be his brother-in-law”, said Father Jose Veira, reporter with Radio Bakhita.
The bodies of the two men were taken to the hospital in central Juba, today capital of a semi-autonomous region that in July should become the capital of an independent South Sudan.
The news of the assassination of the minister was confirmed by a spokesman for the SPLA (Sudan People’s Liberation Army), the former armed movement that under the 2005 accords with Khartoum governs the southern regions.
