Syria Willing To Enter Negotiations With Israel – Reports
Syrian President Bashar Al Assad has said he is willing to enter negotiations with Israel, according to the Qatari news agency QNA citing an article in the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
Citing the Israeli newspaper, QNA reported that Al Assad announced his intentions to two US Congress delegations that are currently visiting the Middle-East.
One of those delegations, headed by Senator Joe Lieberman and Senator John McCain, met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who in turn said that Israel would become a real partner to Syria if their intentions are pure, according to QNA.
Earlier this week, Haaretz reported that U.S. Senator John Kerry, the chairman of the Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee has been working with Syrian President Bashar Assad over the last few months to restart negotiations between Syria and Israel.
However, that same Haaretz report claimed Netanyahu initially opposed the plan as “he does not believe Assad is serious about making peace with Israel.”
