Poll: Moussa Leading Egyptian Presidential Race

A poll conducted by Egypt’s Al Ahram National Centre for Social and Criminological Research regarding the current presidential candidates has indicated that the former Egyptian FM, Dr. Amr Moussa is leading the race while Muslim scholar, Hazem Salah Abu Ismail is in the last place.

The poll is based on answers from Egyptian adults from 26 provinces. Moussa is the front-runner among the candidates with 23.2%. He is followed by Hamdin Sabbahi , the leader of Karameh party who gained 5.8% of the sample. The third place was awarded to the Islamic thinker Dr. Salim Awa, with 4.6%.

Ahmed Shafik, the last prime minister under former President Hosni Mubarak, was fourth with 4.5% and fifth place was awarded to Dr. Ayman Nour, founder of the Ghad Party, who also challenged Mubarak in the recent elections. He got 4.4% in the current poll.

According to the poll results, Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei , former director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and a prominent opposition leader to Mubarak’s regime, is in sixth place with 4%. Islamic scholar Hazem Salah Abu Ismail, a likely candidate for the presidency, closes the list of candidates.
