ndia has welcomed the declaration of “Indian Mujahideen” (IM) as a terrorist organization by the US, saying the move reflected both nations’ commitment to combat global terrorism.

The country’s External Affairs Ministry spokesman said that the terror organization has been actively involved in terror activities since 2005, and that it had links with Pakistan-based terror organizations, including Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM) and Harakat ul-Jihad-i-Islami (HUJI).

“India welcomes the designation yesterday by the U.S. Secretary of State of Indian Mujahideen (IM) as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and as Specially Designated Global Terrorist. It reflects our shared commitment to combat terrorism and the strong and growing bilateral counter-terrorism cooperation, which is an important component of the India-US strategic partnership.”

“The IM has links with Pakistan-based terror organizations LeT, JEM and HUJI and was responsible for dozens of bomb attacks throughout India since 2005, including playing a facilitative role in the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attack carried out by LeT,” said the spokesman.

He further stated: “This underscores once again the destructive agenda of these organizations with trans-regional links and operations, and the responsibility of all countries in our neighbourhood and beyond, to join hands with the international community to root out the menace of terrorism, once and for all”.
