Spain: US Tells Citizens To Stay Away From Demonstrations Ahead Of Elections

The U.S. Embassy in Madrid is advising U.S. citizens to avoid areas where crowds have gathered in Spain to peacefully demonstrate in advance of nationwide municipal and regional elections scheduled to take place on Sunday

According to the U.S. Embassy noted that while no violence is expected, police are present to monitor the demonstrations, “We recommend that U.S. citizens specifically avoid Puerta del Sol in Madrid and Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona where large numbers of people have gathered.”

Smaller groups have also assembled in the cities of Bilbao, Seville, Valencia, Granada, and A Coruna, the Embassy added.
