WikiLeaks’ Assange Calls On Australian PM To Bring Him Home

By

(RFE/RL) — Julian Assange, the Australian-born founder of the whistleblowing WikiLeaks website, has called on Australia’s prime minister to bring his home.

In a video posted on the website of “The Sydney Morning Herald,” Assange calls on Prime Minister Julia Gillard to take “steps to bring me home and to protect [the organization’s] people.”

The WikiLeaks founder is currently under strict bail conditions in the United Kingdom and is due in court on February 7 to face extradition charges to Sweden over allegations of sexual assault.

Assange says the charges are politically motivated and are part of an attempt to disrupt WikiLeaks.

Assange is under criminal investigation in Washington over his organization’s leaking of hundreds of thousands of secret U.S. military reports and diplomatic cables
