Georgia: Protesters Press For Saakashvili’s Resignation
By VOR
Large-scale protests have swept Georgia’s major cities, with protesters urging that President Mikhail Saakashvili step down.
According to the Voice of Russia correspondent, the key event was a rally outside the Georgian President’s residence in Tbilisi.
The organizers have delivered an ultimatum whereby Saakashvili should resign before January 20th, the date of expiry of his term of office.
It was on that day five years ago that Saakashvili was inaugurated, but according to the amendments that he later made, the next presidential election in Georgia is not due before October.
