Egypt: Muslim Brotherhood Joins Protests, Welcomes US Talks

By

Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood will join mass protests on Friday to call for faster reforms and trial of former president Hosni Mubarak and his officials. In a statement posted on its website, the group said: “There were new developments on the subject that necessitated putting it for debate once more.”

Mass rallies are scheduled for Friday to press for accelerating the trials of Mubarak and his ministers involved in the killing of more than 800 people killed during the revolution. The Brotherhood cited a change in the goals of the protest organizers in which they dropped their demand to delay the elections.

The Muslim Brotherhood also said it is willing to hold talks with the United States.

“We welcome dialogue with America to remove any misunderstandings and bridge gaps,” Brotherhood spokesman Mohammed Ghozlan told The Associated Press. According to him, it will be the first time the Brotherhood holds talks with the United States.
