Libya: NATO Aircraft Destroy Tanks Near Misrata

By

NATO said late Tuesday that its aircraft destroyed another five tanks in the immediate vicinity of Misrata that were threatening the civilian population today.

This follows on the reporting earlier of the strike on four tanks in the Zintan area, as NATO keeps the pressure on the Gaddafi Regime.

“As long as Regime forces continue attacking their own people we will intervene to protect them. NATO’s resolve is in its mandate to protect the civilian population,” said Lieutenant-General Charles Bouchard, the Canadian Air Force Commander of Operation Unified Protector.

“Our aircraft will continue to hit Regime targets around Misrata,” he added.

Operation Unified Protector continues to degrade the forces of the Gaddafi Regime in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1973 to protect civilians from attack using any means necessary, NATO said in a statement.
