Message Of Massive Iranian Demonstration In Paris – OpEd
On February 8, thousands of Iranians gathered in Paris to demonstrate against the current regime and to commemorate the anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchy revolution that overthrew the Pahlavi dictatorship. This event marked not only a reflection on the past but also a statement of ongoing resistance against the clerical regime that replaced the Shah’s rule.
This demonstration was organized by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), the largest opposition movement against both the Shah’s and the Clerical dictatorship, along with the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), a political coalition of MEK allies.
First Message of this powerful demonstration :
The Anti-Monarchy Revolution Was Inevitable and Continues Against the Clerical Regime
The first and most significant message of this demonstration—reflected in the slogans, banners, interviews, and statements of the participants, who represented three generations of MEK supporters and social forces across Europe—was that the anti-monarchy revolution was an inevitable and popular uprising for freedom and independence. This revolution has continued in the fight against the clerical dictatorship, which took the Shah’s place.
The truth of that revolution cannot be distorted. It remains alive and dynamic, and we are its rightful heirs, flag bearers, and vanguards, fighting to fulfil its ideals and establish a democratic republic in Iran.
Second Message: The Iranian People’s Determination to Overthrow the Clerical Regime
The second powerful message of this massive and magnificent demonstration was the Iranian people’s unwavering determination to overthrow the clerical dictatorship. This was strongly echoed in their passionate slogans:
“Neither Shah nor Mullah!”
“Victory to the Iranian People’s Democratic Revolution!”
These slogans herald the triumph of the Iranian people.
In her speech to the demonstrators at Place Denfert-Rochereau, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi emphasized their cause:
“We honour the great anti-monarchy revolution with this sacred commitment: we must also overthrow the oppressive clerical regime. Another revolution is in the making.”
Third Message: A Viable Alternative Ready to Lead Change
The third message of this demonstration was that, while the Iranian regime is at an impasse, weakened, and extremely fragile, there is a powerful and capable alternative that commands attention and will continue to do so.
Final Message: This Time, the Iranian People’s Revolution Cannot Be Hijacked
Unlike the 1979 anti-monarchy revolution, which was hijacked, this time, the Iranian people’s revolution is being led by a strong, organized, and experienced movement. With 60 years of struggle against two dictatorships, this movement has:
A broad social base consisting of the most enlightened, dedicated, and selfless men and women,
Leaders and supporters who are willing to pay any price for freedom, even under the harshest conditions.
A Historic and Widely Covered Event
This demonstration, which French police described as massive and impressive, was widely covered by major news agencies such as AFP and Reuters.
Reuters published 166 photos of the event.
The demonstration was broadcast live via the Simaye Azadi satellite network, reaching Iran and the world. As a participant in the demonstration, I personally received messages of support from inside Iran.
Every participant, acting as a citizen journalist, actively shared the event on social media, impressing any objective observer.
Media Censorship and the True Face of the Resistance
The media blackout and censorship of this demonstration by certain state-affiliated media outlets—which claim to advocate for democracy—only expose their biased and deceitful agenda.
At the same time, this proves the integrity and purity of the Iranian people’s resistance movement, which relies solely on the determination and will of the Iranian people.
This movement stand firm against both the Shah and the Mullahs, fighting for a free and democratic Iran.
