Al Qaeda Leader Al-Zawahiri Pledges Allegiance To Taliban
According to an audio statement, Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of Al Qaeda, has pledged the group’s allegiance to the Taliban’s new leader Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour, Reuters reports.
“We pledge our allegiance … (to) our lord, leader of the faithful, Mullah Mohammad Akhtar Mansour, may god protect him,” said Zawahiri, who is believed to be in hiding in the Afghanistan-Pakistan border area.
