Jolie Arrives In Sarajevo For ‘Blood And Honey’ Screening

(RFE/RL) — Hollywood star Angelina Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, have arrived in the Bosnian capital, Sarajevo, for the regional premiere of her directorial debut, a wartime love story that has stirred controversy in the Balkans.

The film, “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” will be shown on February 14 in a special screening for 5,000 guests.

The film depicts the plight of tens of thousands of Bosnian Muslim women who were subjected to rape and abuse by their Serbian captors during the 1992-95 war, a conflict that included the Srebrenica massacre and the 44-month siege of Sarajevo.

Jolie’s film has been criticized by ethnic Serbs, who say it portrays Serbian soldiers as villains.

Republika Srpska, Bosnia’s Serbian entity, has refused to show the film in theaters on its territory.
