Bayern Beats Real Madrid In Champions League Semi-Final First Leg

By

Bayern Munich’s dreams of making it to the Champions League final at their homeground, the Allianz Arena, are starting to take shape after a 2-1 win over visitors Real Madrid in the first leg of the semis.

Bayern’s opener came against the run of play as Real Madrid were the dominant side at the start of the match.

But on 17 minutes the visitors failed to clear after the corner and Franck Ribery blasted home from close range to make it 1-0.

The goal seemed to have knocked the Madrid side off their stride, with the score remaining unchanged till the break.

Jose Mourinho’s men managed to equalize shortly after the re-tart, with Cristiano Ronaldo assisting Mesut Ozil who made the score 1-1.

But it was Bayern, who clearly wanted the win a lot more than the opponents, pushing for the winner till the very end.

And they were rewarded in the game’s last minute when Philipp Lahm escaped Real’s defence on the flank and found Mario Gomez with a low cross – 2-1.

Jupp Heynckes’s charges will expect a tough battle in Madrid on April 25 as Real have so far won all their home matches in this year’s Champions League.

Chelsea and Barcelona meet in the first leg of the other semi-final on Wednsday.
