Aleppo Hit By Blast As Syria Blames Qatar And Saudi Arabia

A suicide car bombing attack reported Sunday in Aleppo, Syria’s largest city, caused deaths and injuries, reported the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights. “The suicide car bomb took place in the district of Sulaymaniyah in Aleppo near a security office,” said the NGO.

Yesterday a double bombing in Damascus, the Syrian capital, killed over 25 people.

The Syrian press Sunday accused Saudi Arabia and Qatar of being responsible for the attacks in Damascus. The official newspaper a-Thawra blamed Qatar, which has called repeatedly for the arming of rebels, and Saudi Arabia, which according to one diplomat, sends arms to Syria.

Syrian newspaper al-Baath daily, the mouthpiece of the ruling party, claimed the attacks “were committed by terrorists armed and financed by foreign forces.” “These attacks are intended to punish the Syrian people for its patriotic stance, to parasitize the mission of(the international envoy Kofi) Annan and to foil (…) a political solution to the crisis,” the newspaper said.

The private Al-Watan daily echoed these comments, “The Syrians have found the reason why the Gulf embassies in Damascus were closed…This may signal a new period for Syria, the bombings and terrorism sent by the emirs of the Gulf. They had threatened yesterday and they have implemented.” The newspaper described them as “ruthless with any opposition, which demands intervention in Syria or an Arab solution.”
