Iran, Turkmenistan Aiming For Closer Ties In Energy, Transportation Sectors

The presidents of Iran and Turkmenistan discussed plans for the promotion of economic cooperation between the two neighbors, particularly in the energy and transportation fields. 

In a telephone conversation with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedow on Tuesday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi expressed satisfaction with the significant growth of relations between the two countries in recent years.

Hailing the increase in the volume of bilateral trade, Raisi stressed the need to speed up the implementation of the important agreements concluded at the meeting of the Joint Commission of Economic Cooperation in the fields of energy, transportation and transit.

Voicing Iran’s readiness to promote cooperation with Turkmenistan in the field of electricity and gas, he called for stronger cooperation between Tehran and Ashgabat in the transportation sector by utilizing the capacities of Iran’s southern ports, including Bandar Abbas and Chabahar.

Raisi also lauded the historical and civilizational background of the two countries, highlighted the grounds available for the promotion of cultural interaction between the two nations, and announced Iran’s readiness to hold a joint cultural program with Turkmenistan and honor common cultural figures and personalities.

Denouncing the Israeli regime’s atrocities in Gaza, Raisi said what the Zionist regime and the US are doing in Palestine have deeply angered not only Muslims but also all people of the world.

He also described defending the oppressed and standing against the oppressors as one of the sublime teachings of Islam and the front of humanity, emphasizing the necessity of using all capacities to help the oppressed people of Gaza.

For his part, Berdimuhamedow expressed satisfaction with the growing trend of relations between the two countries in various political, economic and cultural sectors.

Appreciating the active and effective participation of Iran in the joint meeting of the Economic Commission of the two countries, the Turkmen leader voiced his country’s readiness to expand the level of cooperation and implement the bilateral agreements in the energy, transportation, transit and cultural sectors.
